I had the great opportunity to design logo/packaging for this truely delicious granola. It is now available at the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market.
The finished packaging with the "tractor" seal on the back.
We did different colored tractors for different blends.
Here are the first sketches exlporing fonts, etc.
More sketches, revisions.
Reference for the hand-drawn lettering.
Detail.

This season's market illustration incorporates past season's flyers to celebrate the market's 10th season.
The printed drawing guide. Overlaying tracing paper, using pencil, then marker, I drew the banners, type and strawberry girl separately so I could put them on separate photoshop layers.
The board approval sketch. I usually wait for board approval to start the linework but I took a gamble because of schedule. They loved the sketch.
Scribbles on print outs. a fair amount of this sort of thing goes on with notes and feedback, often times at a pub while enjoying a beer...
Painting begins. I run it past my wife and others at different times for feedback. In this case she did not like the tan background.
A detail of strawberry girl.

A friend of mine gave up his career as an aeronautical engineer to open a pizza joint. I designed this logo for him to help him get started. It is really good pizza... the dough is his grandma's secret recipe.

It is a great place to stop by on the way back from a day at the mountain.

The more I look at this the more it amuses me. I have never had a caricature done before.
Here is a speedpainting movie:

I used to work with Bill at Will Vinton Studios. He has a great drawing or painting a day blog:

Here are some images that show the process...
The original sketch:
The refined sketch... a combination of scans, drawing, pasting...
Ready to do the line drawing... I get nervous at this part because I want spontaneity, which is hard to do when you are trying to make the perfect line drawing... notice my reference images to the left...
The finished line drawing. There will be some touch-up in Photoshop...
Now I shoot the line using my high tech technique... it actually works very well except when shadowy figures cross by...quite often in this neighborhood.
Now it is time to paint. Spontaneity is fun with controlZ...
Finished!

There was a story that a drunk set fire to a cat and that is what caused the fire which consequently burned down half of Seville in 1609. Miraculously, Frank was that cat. No one knew this and if it were not for the small bald spot on his right shoulder it would seem he lost that particular life unscathed. Mirari's friend Scabbie had rescued Frank from the flames, wrapping him in a wet blanket. Scabbie lived on the streets so Frank came to reside with Mirari's family. And so it was when her mother died and her father took her to sea Frank came with, and equally miraculously he was with her today. He crawled up onto a barrel top and began licking himself as the corsair again tacked and disappeared over the horizon.
Once again, super thanks to Tracy Prescott MacGregor for the wonderful illustration!

Time collapsed into a whir of thoughts struggling to form. Mirari wanted to cry out, explode in grief but she couldn't move, not only not by choice, but because her father's words "You MUST live" echoed as a driving force, forcing her to be still. Slowly, she became aware of her surroundings. She sensed a growing calmness about her. Now she was gaining confidence she would survive. Suddenly an explosion sent splinters of the ship thrusting into her side. She quickly realized that the ship was being destroyed, by whom she was not sure. Slowly she got up and looked around. The decks were clear, fire was spreading to the rigging and, about 50 meters away, the corsair was preparing to fire again.
HUGE Thanks to Tracy Prescott MacGregor for this week's wonderful illustration!
